WORLD VISION HELPS IN HAITI
The founder of the publisher Living Epistles Ministries, Sheila R. Vitale comes to her work as a pastor and teacher after living through chronic health difficulties and even near-death experiences. Outside of her responsibilities at Living Epistles Ministries, Sheila Vitale contributes to a number of charities, including World Vision.
A humanitarian organization with Christian values, World Vision focuses on helping people living in poverty all over the world, no matter what their religion is. One of the ways the organization provides aid is through disaster relief. Recently, the organization was on hand to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, which hit Haiti on October 4, 2016.
The death toll from Hurricane Matthew is expected to surpass 1,000. Many homes were destroyed, and as of mid-October some towns are still blocked off by fallen trees and floods, while many people remained without access to food or clean water. World Vision already supports nearly 60,000 children in Haiti through its sponsorship program and has been working to provide hygiene, kitchen, and roofing kits to assist Haitians in getting through the worst of the disaster. It is also providing food for the short term and, in an effort to help residents grow crops again, distributing seeds and rebuilding agriculture.
