WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE VFW?

Sheila R. Vitale has been responsible for the distribution of free Judeo-Christian literature for many years since she founded Living Epistles Ministries in the late 1980s. When she isn’t teaching through her ministry, Sheila Vitale supports numerous charitable organizations, including Veterans of Foreign Wars.

With a rich history spanning more than a century, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization can trace its inception back to the days of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection. With soldiers returning home from these conflicts without proper medical treatment or safety nets to take care of them, veterans began forming local organizations to help one another get needed help and care.

With a membership now topping 1.7 million, the VFW moved from its nascent roots in local communities to becoming one of the leading voices responsible for the eventual creation of the Veterans Administration. The VFW was also a key player in getting a renewed GI Bill in 2008, assuring that a new generation of veterans get the support they need to transition from military to civilian life.

As a whole, the VFW is one of the leaders in veteran support. The organization continues to hold itself accountable to its simple mission statement: No One Does More for Veterans.
